Returning to the Indian market after more than two decades, the new-generation Tata Sierra completely reimagines the brand’s original iconic SUV for the modern era. The Sierra retains the spirit of its predecessor through its upright, boxy stance and the signature wraparound rear glasshouse effect, but modernizes it with flush door handles, aerodynamic alloy wheels, and a completely smoothed-out surfacing.

The front fascia features a monolithic, clean design defined by a full-width LED light bar and vertically stacked LED headlamps housed deep within the bumper. The vehicle's striking road presence and clean aesthetics have already earned it a prestigious Red Dot design award.

1.Nterior and Technology

The cabin is heavily digitized and focused on delivering a spacious, premium lounge experience, particularly for rear-seat passengers who benefit from the expanded headroom of the stepped roofline. The dashboard is headlined by a futuristic triple-screen layout, which includes a central infotainment display, a dedicated digital instrument cluster, and a separate passenger-side entertainment screen.

Comfort and convenience are prioritized with a massive panoramic sunroof, front-seat ventilation, and a premium 12-speaker JBL Black audio system. Safety is exceptionally robust; the Sierra is equipped with up to seven airbags, Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and a high-resolution 360-degree surround-view camera.

2.Engine and Performance

Tata uniquely offers the Sierra in both Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and fully Electric Vehicle (EV) architectures to cater to a diverse range of buyers.

ICE Powertrains: The combustion lineup includes a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a high-performance 1.5-litre turbo-petrol producing up to 158 bhp, and a 1.5-litre Kryojet turbo-diesel engine generating 116 bhp and 280 Nm of torque. Transmission options include standard manual gearboxes, torque converter automatics, and a Dual Clutch Automatic (DCA) for the petrol variants.

Sierra EV: Built on Tata’s advanced Acti.ev+ architecture, the electric Sierra is available with either a 63 kWh or a larger 75 kWh battery pack, delivering a claimed range between 535 km and 665 km. The top-tier 75 kWh model offers a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup that produces 306 hp and 504 Nm of torque, capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 kph in just 5.8 seconds.

Off-Road & Charging: The EV features an ultra-glide suspension with frequency-dependent damping and six specialized terrain modes for off-roading. Using a DC fast charger, it can replenish up to 263 km of range in just 15 minutes and supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capabilities.

3.Pricing and Competitors

The Sierra's ICE variants are sold in distinct trims such as Smart Plus, Pure, Adventure, and Accomplished, alongside a premium "Legend Series" for buyers seeking top-tier luxury amenities.

The standard ICE Sierra is priced aggressively, starting at ₹11.49 Lakh (ex-showroom) for the entry-level petrol manual, scaling up to ₹21.29 Lakh for the fully loaded Accomplished Plus Diesel Automatic. The Sierra EV commands a premium, with prices ranging from ₹21.20 Lakh for the base 63 kWh Pure model to ₹27.69 Lakh for the top-spec 75 kWh AWD variant. Upon launch, the Sierra competes directly in the premium compact and mid-size SUV segments, challenging ICE stalwarts like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Mahindra Scorpio N, as well as upcoming electric rivals like the Mahindra BE 6 Sporteq and Hyundai Creta EV.
